NODA AGM and Presidential Gala 2015
Your invitation to attend

On Saturday 26th September 2015 NODA is holding its Meeting and Presidential Gala in Leeds and you are cordially invited to attend either in your own right as a member of the association or as a member of an affiliated society.

This year the incoming President is Chris Ingram, currently Chairman of Trustees and Vice President and he will be installed into his new role at the AGM. There will be a full report of the activities and finances of the association in 2014, also, the national Programme and Poster award winners will be announced.

Traditionally the event has been over two or three days, however, to keep costs down, the event will essentially be one day only. Most delegates, with the exception of those who live in the more remote corners of the UK, are able to travel Saturday morning as Leeds has excellent road and rail connections.

The AGM is at 14.00 in The Carriageworks Theatre (where most Leeds based societies perform), Millennium Square, Leeds, LS2 3AD. All members, society or individuals have a right to attend or be represented at the AGM free of any charge. The Meeting of Regional Committee Members is at 11.00 in the Carriageworks.

In the evening our Presidential Dinner and Gala Ball will be at a top four star hotel in Leeds; The Queens Hotel, City Square, Leeds, LS1 1PJ, which is immediately adjacent to Leeds Rail Station. The hotel is accustomed to hosting prestigious events in it’s superb Ballroom, accommodating up to 500 guests. The Reception for the evening is at 18.45 with Dinner at 19.30 prompt. After a sumptuous meal we will dance the night away. Full details are in the attached booking form and brochure.

*Only the Presidential Gala Dinner and Ball is being booked through NODA, tickets cost £45*

The Queens Hotel is immediately adjacent to Leeds Railway Station and The Carriageworks is only a 10 minute walk away, or even shorter in a taxi.

Hotel accommodation is not being booked through NODA but should be booked direct with your hotel of choice. There are still rooms available at The Queens Hotel for the Saturday night (Friday also) at £144 per room (double occupancy) or £!32.00 per room single occupancy, including breakfast. Book your room by phone to 0845 074 0060, specifying NODA package. Enclosed with this information are details of hotels to book in Leeds.

Anyone can of course decide to make a mini-break of the weekend and Leeds has many attractions both within the City and in the surrounding areas which would make such a break an attractive and interesting holiday.

It promises to be a great day – see you there!

Connie Fisher joins NODA as Patron

NODA is delighted to announce that Connie Fisher has agreed to become a Patron of the Association alongside existing Patron, Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Connie Fisher won the BBC One talent contest, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? and on 15th November 2006, she opened to excellent reviews in the part of Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music in the West End, London on a six-month contract, which was extended until 23 February 2008. She resumed the role of Maria in The Sound of Music UK tour which started in July 2009.

With her background in amateur theatre, Connie appreciates the value of being involved in a local Society as well as recognising how young people can develop transferrable skills that will stand them in good stead in later life.

Connie is delighted to become a Patron of NODA and the Association looks forward to enjoying a long relationship with her, as well as continuing to enjoy the patronage of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Dear NODA member,

Introducing the TheatreFest15 New Work Award

As you are no doubt aware NODA has partnered with the Isle of Man Arts Council in a five-year project to pioneer and promote new work for the theatre:
TheatreFest15.

Launched in the Isle of Man in May TheatreFest15 is already generating exciting new initiatives, central to which is the TheatreFest15 New Work Award, a competition to be held each year throughout the projects five-year lifespan which this year invites writers to submit a one-act play on slavery, a theme that will shape and inspire all TheatreFest initiatives throughout 2015.

The winning entry will be produced in 2016 for one night at the Talisman Theatre in Kenilworth, Warwickshire and be staged at the Gaiety Theatre, Douglas in the Isle of Man as part of that years TheatreFest programme.

We believe this initiative to find a new work for the stage, with its potent theme of slavery - as prevalent now as it was in the past, albeit in a different guise - has the power to unlock exciting new writing talent as well as inspire established authors. Tony Gibbs, NODA chief executive.

And in the spirit of NODA and TheatreFests quest to remove barriers, galvanise imagination and drive change in amateur theatre, the competition is open to writers not only in the British Isles but also anywhere in the world.

Opening up creative opportunities globally is a truly compelling proposition.
Michael Lees, vice-president, Isle of Man Arts Council.

NODA is proud to be championing new work for the stage through its support of the TheatreFest15 New Work Award, a project it believes resonates with the associations vision of Inspiring Theatre.

If you are similarly inspired, you can find all the details at theatrefest15.com.
