This production will be around 45 minutes long performed alongside two other one-act plays. This production is set in modern day. It will be a non-realistic and highly stylised production that explores celebrity culture and their sometimes frivolous treatment of marriage.

The characters and audition pieces are as follows:

Jack: Tries to be sensible but usually doesn't manage it. It his lies that begin the play and lead to its confusions. He is in love with Gwendolyn. Page 2/3

Algernon:
He enjoys getting into scrapes and is never serious. He falls in love with Cecily. Page 2/3

Gwendolyn: Quite glamorous and driven. She is the more grown-up of the two young women. She wishes to marry Jack (er... I mean Earnest). Pages 18-20

Cecily: She is very childish, silly and girly. She falls for Algernon (or do I mean Earnest?) Pages 10 (from Algernon's entrance)/11/12

Miss Prism: Traditionally Cecily's governess but more like a security guard in this re-imagining. This role could be played by either a boy or a girl. Pages 10/29/30

Lady Bracknell: Gwendolyn's mother. She is very particular. This role could be played by a woman or a man in drag. Page 5 (from Gwendolyn's exit)/ 6/7(to Algernon's entrance)

Today was the NODA London Conference & Awards Day and we were lucky enough to be nominated in three categories.

David Liddiard, was nominated for the Shelley Lemesh trophy for the unsung hero.

Hoffi Munt, was nominated for the Louise English Award for a company member (under 30) who has made an outstanding contribution to their society.

And Parry Bates, was nominated for the Ken Wirdnam Trophy for best male character in a musical or operetta for his performance of The Man in Whistle Down the Wind.

In the NODA London group there are 250 theatre companies so even to be nominated is a great honor.

However, even better than a nomination, Parry Bates won his category and was chosen as the winner out of the seventeen nominees!

This is fantastic news and it is well deserved. Well done Parry!

In the NODA review of Whistle Down the Wind, Jeanette Maskell, NODA representative in our region, said:

Parry Bates – (The Man) – When I heard Parry had been cast in this role I was concerned that at such a young age he may not have the life experience to take on such a huge challenge. How wrong can one be, this was an outstanding performance; emotionally charged mature and quite literally awe-inspiring. From his first Jesus Christ to his final Get out of here there was nothing that could be faulted; diction accent movement and expression was spot on. He interacted well with the children and the rapport between him and Sparrow grew throughout the performance culminating in the most exquisitely impassioned final scene. His numbers were well sung clear and expressive.

Overall the conference was a really enjoyable day and it was great to see so many amateur theatre companies being celebrated for their successes.

Show week write up

28/6/2015

Comments

I am just now managing to catch up on all that has happened over the last few weeks.

We had a show week of three very successful productions.

The first was The Players performing Spring and Port Wine, which you can find reviewed below.

Next there was The Children's Theatre production of The Little Mermaid Jr. Which also received a write-up in the Newbury Weekly News, which you can read below.

Last, but not least, was The Young Performers' production of The Lost Letter which, although it was not reviewed, I can confirm was a very successful production and the children did a wonderful job bringing the script to life.
